What are some of the ingredients that Seventh Generation avoids using because they cause harm to the public or environment?

At Seventh Generation we made a promise the moment we named our brand. It’s a promise that is inspired by The Great Law of the Iroquois Confederacy — that in our every deliberation we consider the impact of our decisions on the next seven generations. Considering our impact means a lot of things. We carefully choose each ingredient we use in our products, in both formula and packaging. We prioritize biodegradability in our ingredietns and post-consumer recycled plastic in our packaging. Throughout every aspect of product development. Seventh Generation works to mitigate risk when it comes to impacting the health of both people and planet. We call this the Seventh Generation Principle of Precaution.

What determines that Seventh Generation is a B Corp?

Certified B Corporations are businesses that meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose. B Corps are accelerating a global culture shift to redefine success in business and build a more inclusive and sustainable economy.

Society’s most challenging problems cannot be solved by government and nonprofits alone. The B Corp community works toward reduced inequality, lower levels of poverty, a healthier environment, stronger communities, and the creation of more high-quality jobs with dignity and purpose. By harnessing the power of business, B Corps use profits and growth as a means to a greater end: positive impact for their employees, communities, and the environment.

Corps form a community of leaders and drive a global movement of people using business as a force for good. The values and aspirations of the B Corp community are embedded in the B Corp Declaration of Interdependence.

Does Seventh Generation test on animals?

Seventh Generation has never conducted or commissioned any animal testing of our products or their ingredients. There are alternative methods of assessing product safety that don’t require animal testing. We use a combination of laboratory experiments without animals, clinical dermatology studies with human volunteers, and globally recognized calculation models.

In 1999, Seventh Generation joined the Coalition for Consumer Information on Cosmetics (CCIC) Leaping Bunny Program. All Seventh Generation product testing is in conformance with our company certification under the CCIC Leaping Bunny Program, and our products proudly carry the Leaping Bunny logo.

What can I do with my canisters once I finish using the products?

Our canisters for this line are made of steel that is recyclable – simply place it in your recycling for pick up. We are also working on developing refill products so that soon you can hang on to your canister, and replace the tablets or powders whenever you run out. We will update this site when those products are available. Stay tuned!

Why did you choose steel canisters as the packaging for this product?

We chose to package our Zero Plastic line in steel canisters because they allow for reuse and refilling, are widely accepted globally for recycling, and because steel maintains its strength throughout closed-loop recycling. Steel also offers a superior moisture barrier, which ensures the product maintains its required shelf life.

The lid on my canister can be hard to remove. Do you have any suggestions?

If you hold your canister in one hand and twist the cap as you pull up, it should come off more easily.
